Drill Bits Demystified: Everything You Need to Know

Every tradie swears by his drill, but the tool is only half what’s needed to get the job done. Drill bits are the parts that drill into the material to create holes of the required depth and width. These drilling and cutting accessories differ in shape, size and design and are used with a variety of tools and for different materials. Choosing the right bits not only means cleaner and more precise holes and cuts but also faster working times, and parts that last longer.Drill bits Continue reading

Sutton Tools acquire Carb-I-Tool

In its 101st year, Australian tool manufacturer Sutton Tools has acquired another long-standing Melbourne-based manufacturer, Carb-I-Tool Pty Ltd.

Founded by Neil Hamilton in 1974 and located in Moorabbin, Carb-I-Tool offers a wide range of woodworking and engineering tools through a national network of industrial and hardware retailers.

We see Carb-I-Tools as an excellent addition to our existing business. Their range of solid carbide tools extend our own range. In addition, their catalogues of woodworking products, saws and cutter- sharpening equipment broaden our own industrial and trade tool ranges, and will enable us to enter into other sectors, both domestic and international.

Carb-I-Tools founder, Neil Hamilton, said, “I am delighted that Carb-I-Tools will continue to serve the Australian market as it has done for 44 years. Acquisition by Sutton Tools, now a global business, offers the opportunity to take our quality and innovation further afield.”

All current management and staff at Carb-I-Tool will remain with the business and will continue to trade under the Carb-I-Tool banner as a division of Sutton Tools Pty Ltd.

About Carb-I-Tool Pty Ltd

Carb-I-Tool was founded by Neil Hamilton in 1974 as a home-based business reselling carbide-tipped saw blades. Recognising the demand for good quality carbide-tipped router bits, the company leased a small factory to manufacture them, later acquiring Australia’s only other provider, Stanley T-Cut. Subsequent diversification included acquisitions of Meyer Precision Grinding and C&S Saws. Today, Carb-I-Tool offers an extensive range of woodworking and engineering products plus niche tooling services to the industrial, trade and consumer retail sectors. www.carbitool.com.au

HSS or Carbide tools? That is the question?

Many manufacturing customers often ask about the benefits of HSS versus Carbide for solid rotary tools. Quite often the right decision is based on commercial or quality considerations such as process improvement and reduced cycle times– rather than just their technical attributes.

A person who is widely known in the industry as an expert, Jeff Boyd has put some answers in a new article, HSS or Carbide tools? That is the question… He outlines the range of pros and cons of each material for drilling, tapping and milling – along with the technical and commercial reasons for picking one over the other – and looks at the promise of HSS-PM (Powder Metallurgy) tools.
